Loved reading your post. It brought back some great memories. The Stratsraad Lehmkuhl was one of the tall ships my high school used to send us sailing around the world as cadets. I was a student there a few years after they used that ship. I was on the Ariadne (3 masted schooner) and Phoenix (brigantine). That cruise changed my life. I am now a USCG master mariner, and still sailing as often as I can even 40 years after graduation.
I highly recommend to anyone, if you ever get the chance to sail a tall ship- DO IT!

In reply to Rhonda Albom. I met a woman from the US that was a crew member aboard a tall ship in NZ, it was probably her ship. I wonder if they ever have tall ship races in your area, that would be awesome!

Great account and beautiful photos of an amazing trip. I can only take a trip like this in my dreams because I’d never be able to get into the hammock and would have to sleep on the deck.

What an awesome experience. There is a tall ship in New Zealand that offers youth development but I would love to try it myself. That photo of all the tall ships docked in the harbour is amazing.
