The Democratic National Convention kicked off on Monday with speeches from Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. But there was one attendee who grabbed the nation’s attention without saying anything onstage: Ella Emhoff. Kamala Harris’s crocheting, Bushwick-residing stepdaughter wore a high-necked tank that showed off the micro tattoos on her arms and held a disposable camera with which I bet she captured some solid material for her finsta. But the pièce de résistance was her hat: the Harris-Walz camo-print cap that the official Harris Victory store describes as “the most iconic political hat in America” and that I personally describe as “a blatant copy of Chappell Roan’s Midwest Princess merch.”
Emhoff made headlines just a few weeks ago when she came to her stepmother’s defense after Republican VP pick J.D. Vance’s comments calling Harris a “childless cat lady” resurfaced. “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like cole and I,” she captioned an Instagram Story sharing her mother Kerstin Emhoff’s statement in support of Harris.
I can only hope that later this week she will wear the crochet skirt that she embroidered with the image of a very cute duck.
