The Cher Lookbook
The internet loves to call pop stars, actresses, and other female celebrities “mother” as of late. But if you ask me, this honorary title should be reserved for one legend and one legend only: Cher. Often referred to as the Goddess of Pop, Cher is a true triple threat with nearly seven (yes, seven!) decades of fame under her belt. Throughout the course of her career, she’s earned an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, four No. 1 singles, and the coveted status of fashion icon.
Cher met costume designer Bob Mackie while working on The Carol Burnett Show in the 1960s. The two soon started collaborating on looks that would eventually help shape her career and the fashion industry at large. Cher was never afraid to wear Mackie’s groundbreaking designs, which often featured sheer fabrics, sequins, feathers, bold headpieces, and other experimental elements. And together, the pair made fashion magic for decades.
