Ugh, isn’t it so annoying when you like one of Donald Trump’s posts on Instagram and then a bunch of haters come for you just as you’re en route to Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island estate? Such was the situation Brittany Mahomes found herself in on Friday, when people clocked her Instagram handle underneath a Trump post that laid out the “2024 GOP Platform.”
The post, from August 13, was a big list of Trump’s campaign promises, including “Keep men OUT of women’s sports,” “Carry out the largest deportation operation in American history,” and “Cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory, Radical Gender Ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.”
Screenshots and screen recordings appear to show that Mahomes liked the post, though it’s unclear when she did so. She has since removed her like, and she does not presently follow Trump. Unfortunately for her, the damage has already been done, especially among the Swifties. Mahomes and Swift have formed a friendship over the past year, since Mahomes is married to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Swift is dating Travis Kelce. Swift’s fans are none too happy about this latest development.
Mahomes decided to address the situation head-on with a carefully worded post on her Instagram Story. “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well,” she wrote. Mahomes did not specify what exactly her haters were upset about, although I’d say it wasn’t the fact that she’s “doing well.”
For some reason, Mahomes felt the need to make sure her haters could understand her message. A few days later, she shared a post that read, “Contrary to the tone of the world today … You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.” Underneath that, Mahomes wrote, “Read that again!”
Mahomes’s “Take that, losers!” attitude caught the eye of Trump himself, who thanked her personally. “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country,” the former president wrote in a Truth Social post on Wednesday.
“What a great couple — See you both at the Super Bowl,” he wrote in conclusion. Yikes. This is getting messy for Mahomes, because even if she does agree with him, she probably doesn’t want him to be so loud about it. Especially not the day before the Chiefs play in the NFL season opener. God, I would love to read Tree Paine’s texts right now.
